Breast augmentation has consistently been one of the top 5 most sought after aesthetic surgical procedures. Because so many women are interested in breast augmentation in Houston and elsewhere, it’s important to understand the different ways a surgeon can augment the breasts, the procedure’s associated costs, and how to choose the best breast surgeon for you.
In this post, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bob Basu answers real Houston women’s questions about breast augmentation in order to help women everywhere make informed decisions regarding plastic surgery.
1. How much are breast implants in Houston?
- Your surgeon’s credentials. Typically, breast augmentation performed by a respected board-certified plastic surgeon will cost more than surgery performed by an uncertified surgeon. This is because a board-certified plastic surgeon will have advanced surgical skill, training, and expertise, as well as an eye for aesthetics.
- Associated surgical fees. In addition to your surgery, the total cost of your breast augmentation will include other fees, including anesthesia, surgical facility costs, surgeon’s fees, post-procedure medications, and post-surgery garments.
- Implant type. Another factor that will affect the cost of your breast augmentation is whether you opt for silicone or saline breast implants. Silicone gel implants (a.k.a. “gummy bear implants”) tend to be more expensive than saline-filled implants, but women often find that they feel more natural. While saline implants are filled with a sterile saline (salt water) solution, silicone implants have a highly viscous gel, making them softer, shapelier, and less likely to wrinkle.
2. Who is the best breast surgeon in Houston?
- Credentials and operating facility. He or she is a surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and who operates in a state-licensed, accredited facility.
- Experience with your procedure. He or she has performed your desired breast procedure hundreds of times. (A great way to determine if a surgeon is able to provide the results you want is to view “before” photos of patients that look like you in his or her before & after gallery.)
- Personality. You connect with and feel completely comfortable with him or her.
3. How long do breast implants last?
What type of breast implants last the longest?
4. What’s the best way to get larger breasts without implants?
- Fat transfer breast augmentation: This procedure involves harvesting fat from an area of your body with a little more “cushion,” such as the thighs, buttocks, or love handles, then purifying the fat cells and injecting them into your breasts. Patients who seek fat transfer breast augmentation like the soft, completely natural feel and subtle volume the procedure provides
- Tummy tuck: A tummy tuck can help your breasts (and bottom!) appear larger by cinching your waistline. While liposuction spot-reduces stubborn fat on the body, a tummy tuck tightens the abdominal muscles and removes excess belly skin. For women with loose skin, stretch marks, and/or exercise-resistant fat pockets, a tummy tuck can be combined with liposuction for advanced torso contouring.
- Breast lift: A breast lift may restore a perky shape to sagging or deflated breasts. While a breast lift alone does not add volume, it lifts breasts higher on the chest and re-shapes tissues for an elevated profile and round contour.
